Fort Worth, Arlington warn residents of illegal fireworks activity ahead of New Year’s

Fort Worth and Arlington are reminding residents to not use fireworks in the city limits ahead of the New Year’s holiday weekend.

In Fort Worth, the illegal use of fireworks is punishable by a fine up to $2,000, and celebratory firearm discharge is punishable by up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine. Fort Worth police said both can create potential danger to human life and property.

Illegal fireworks use is punishable by fines up to $2,000 in Arlington as well.

Both cities have ways to report illegal fireworks activity. Fort Worth residents are asked to call 817-392-4444 or report through the MyFW app using the red banner at the bottom of a smartphone screen. Reports can also be made at reportfireworks.fortworthtexas.gov.

Arlington residents are asked to report illegal firework activity at arlingtontx.gov/reportfireworks or using the Ask Arlington app on a smartphone. Reports can be submitted in the Arlington web portal starting Friday.

Residents may also call the Arlington Fire Department’s non-emergency phone line at 817-274-4444.

Both cities have asked residents not to call 911 when reporting fireworks activity in order to keep the phone lines open for emergencies. Call 911 if you are reporting someone injured or a fire or other emergency.
