Fatal accident with pedestrian closes US 287 southbound in Mansfield, police say
US 287 southbound at Lone Star Road in Mansfield was closed for hours Tuesday morning due to an accident that killed a pedestrian, police said.
The accident occurred in the 1800 block of the southbound highway around 5 a.m., Mansfield police said.
“The vehicle was traveling southbound in the outside lane. The driver immediately pulled over and contacted 911,” police said in a news release. “He reported that it was dark outside and he may have struck a deer. He remained at the location until officers arrived.”
Officers found a man in the center median suffering from serious injuries, they said. He later succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
“Investigators believe the man was struck in the lane of traffic while attempting to cross the highway,” police said. “The motorist is cooperating with investigators and no charges have been filed in this case.”
The man who died was identified as Aaron Andrew Pickrell, 42, of Kennedale, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s website.
