Air Force sergeant returns home early, surprises Grand Prairie police officer husband

These tissue moments never get old.

U.S. Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Viviana Molina, who had been gone six months serving in Iraq, surprised her husband, Grand Prairie police Officer Edgar Molina on Wednesday afternoon as he was making a National Night Out presentation in the lobby of the Grand Prairie Police Public Safety Building.

The hug lasted almost forever, and there were tears.

“Sorry, guys,” Officer Edgar Molina told the small group gathered in the lobby for the interruption. He hugged his wife and wiped away tears.

The Molinas, who have been married 15 years, have a history with the Grand Prairie Police Department.

They were both hired with Grand Prairie police in June 2017. They had applied to area police departments separately, and didn’t tell each other.

Viviana Molina left the department in September 2019 and joined the U.S. Air Force, where she has worked in logistics.

Because of COVID-19, Viviana Molina’s return home had been delayed.

That all ended Wednesday afternoon.

As her husband spoke to a group of reporters in the lobby, Viviana Molina approached from behind, but Edgar Molina didn’t see her.

It wasn’t until she was almost at his elbow that the reunion was complete.

Viviana Molina waved at her husband, and the hugging began.

Someone shouted, “Are you going to kiss the girl or what?”

Edgar Molina didn’t hesitate with his answer, “Sure.”

He took off his COVID-19 mask, his wife took off her mask, and they kissed.
