Tarrant County asks residents to take steps against West Nile Virus amid COVID-19

Tarrant County is asking residents to be wary of the West Nile virus.

Most of the positive West Nile virus mosquito results have been in northeast Tarrant County, according to a county press release.

There have been no cases of the virus reported in residents as of June 27, but there have been 23 positive cases found in mosquito samples, according to a county report. Cities like Arlington have conducted ground spraying in areas with the virus.

Public Health Director Vinny Taneja said symptoms of COVID-19 and West Nile Virus are similar so it can be hard to tell the difference. People should see a doctor if they experience fever, cough, or sore throat.

“We want to remind everyone to protect themselves against mosquitos by wearing long sleeves and pants and using repellents when outside,” Taneja said.
