Springtown oil tank fire likely caused by lightning. People asked to avoid the area.

Motorists were being asked to avoid the area around an oil tank fire in Springtown at Sandlin Lane and FM 51 on Tuesday morning.

An oil tank facility caught fire after possibly being struck by lightning around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Springtown police, Reno police, the Parker County Sheriff’s Office and Parker County Emergency Services District evacuated the neighborhoods around the facility and shut traffic down on FM 51 between J.E. Woody Road and Veal Station Road. These roads should have now re-opened, according to Springtown police.

The fire was under control and FM 51 was re-opened shortly after 10 a.m. Families that were evacuated were allowed back into their homes, police said.

No injuries have been reported.
