Dallas mob brutally attacks machete-wielding man in viral video from Saturday protest

A Dallas mob attacked a machete-wielding man in the Victory Park area late Saturday.

The scene was captured on video that went viral on social media as riots, looting and mayhem took hold in cities across the country in the wake of George Floyd’s death while in custody of Minneapolis police.

The attack happened in the 2200 block of North Lamar Street near the House of Blues, just a few blocks south of American Airlines Center. The man confronted protesters wielding a machete, police said, to “allegedly protect his neighborhood from protesters,” according to KTVT/Channel 11.

The video, shot by Blaze TV’s Elijah Schaffer, had nearly 12 million views early Sunday morning.

Another video from a different angle shows the man running from and then back toward the group before he is knocked to the ground and attacked by multiple people.

The videos show the man motionless on the street after being beaten by a group of 10 to 15 men, including one who used a skateboard. Another struck the man with a rock-shaped item.

He was taken to a hospital before police arrived and his status has not been released.

As of 11 p.m. Saturday, Dallas Police reported 74 arrests for inciting a riot, including 36 at 1500 Young Street, 27 on McKinney Avenue, 10 on freeways, and one at Elm Street and Ervay Street.
