Authorities search for girl who left message on home security camera asking for help

Deputies with the Wise County Sheriff’s Office are looking for a young girl who was seen on home security cameras asking for help on Tuesday, the sheriff’s office said on Facebook.

The girl — who is about 5 feet 3 inches tall, 80 pounds, ranging in age from 12 to 14 with shoulder-length black hair — popped up on video surveillance cameras in the Indian Trails Subdivision at around 1:15 p.m. She was dressed in black leggings, sneakers and an athletic-type top. She carried a backpack and a large satchel-type bag, the sheriff’s office said.

This neighborhood is between Decatur and Bridgeport approximately half a mile from Highway 380.

As the girl left a message on the security system, officials say, she looked around as though someone was following her. She stayed in the area until “something appeared to attract her attention.” Then she ran toward a heavily wooded area, the sheriff’s office said.

The entire neighborhood has been canvassed and no one saw or recognized her. There are no reports of runaways or similar incidents in the surrounding area, officials said.

Local school districts have also been contacted. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Wise County Sheriff’s Office at 940-627-5971.
