A natural gas leak at a Southlake middle school caused the building to be evacuated and two people to become sick on Saturday night.

An inhalation hazard was reported at Dawson Middle School, according to the Southlake Department of Public Safety, and firefighters immediately responded to the school.

Two patients reported symptoms like headaches, dizziness and bloodshot eyes after being in the school.

At first, firefighters were unable to find anything in the school. The building was evacuated, and everyone was taken to Eubanks Intermediate as a precautionary measure.

However, after diligent searching, firefighters found a furnace with a natural-gas leak on the roof, Southlake DPS reported on the department’s Twitter feed.

“Great job to the firefighters who fully investigated this call, took precautionary measures for the citizens, and who thought to check the roof even in the frigid temperatures!” A tweet from the department read.

Repairs are set to be made to the furnace tomorrow, DPS reported.
