A 3-year-old McKinney girl drowned Saturday afternoon during a family gathering at Little Elm Park, officials said.

Relatives of the girl reported her missing to park officials at 3:29 p.m., according to the Little Elm Fire Department.

She was identified by the Tarrant County medical examiner's office as Samyah Craver-Watson.

Four minutes after she was reported missing, emergency responders were alerted that a child matching the description of Samyah had been found in a shallow part of Lewisville Lake, officials said. She was unconscious, unresponsive and not breathing.

Fire officials performed CPR on the girl as she was rushed to Medical City of Denton. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Little Elm had increased staffing at the park in anticipation of larger crowds over the Memorial Day weekend, officials said.

The Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife and Little Elm Police Department are investigating the incident.
