Report: School officials looking into alleged DeSoto-Southlake Carroll incident

DeSoto ISD is asking UIL officials to look into what happened between a Southlake Carroll coaching staff member and the DeSoto team.

CBSDFW reports that with 2:41 in the fourth quarter between DeSoto and Southlake Carroll, a Dragon player was brought down near the DeSoto sideline.

The station reports a commotion occurred after Southlake Carroll coaches walked on the field to talk with the player.

DeSoto ISD Board of Trustees Vice President Aubrey Hooper told the station he got a phone call from the athletic director that one of the opposing team’s staff members yelled the N-word.

In a statement released to the station, Hooper wrote: “It is unfortunate that an assistant coach on the Southlake Carroll coaching staff decided to trump the activities on the field and created a distraction laced with a racial epithet that was not only disrespectful to the members of the DeSoto Eagles football team, but also to the hard work and effort of the Southlake Carroll Dragons.”

On its Facebook page, Carroll ISD responded to a comment it is also conducting an investigation.

“So far we have no facts to confirm the allegation,” Carroll ISD wrote on Facebook. “Use of that type derogatory language would not be condoned and does not align with our Dragon core values. We have reached out to the DeSoto coaching staff and administration to reaffirm that and will continue our investigation into this matter.”

DeSoto won 48-30 in the Class 6A Division II area round at Kimbrough Stadium.
