State trooper’s kind gesture goes viral in Facebook video
A 2-year-old boy got a permanent cowboy keepsake at AT&T Stadium on Sunday, but it doesn’t have a Cowboys star on it.
Cassie Loftin, a former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, posted a video of her son, Cannon, greeting officers as they walked off the field after a halftime tribute to 9/11 and first responders.
Cannon had brought along a toy fire truck and was wearing a tiny blue police officer’s billed hat.
Many of the passing law officers pat Cannon on the head or geture at him, but one of the last officers takes off his state trooper white cowboy hat and places it on the boy’s head.
“Sweetest moment EVER! Cannon wore his police hat to the game today, and after the 9/11 tribute during halftime, he got a lot of love from all the officers. In fact, at the end of this video, you see a state trooper give Cannon his hat! His life was made. I wish we knew who he was so I could personally thank him!!” Cassie Loftin wrote in her Facebook post.
The video has been viewed more than 54,000 times and shared more than 800 times.
“He’s used to seeing cheerleaders and players on the sidelines but that just made his eyes light up, seeing the policemen out there,” Loftin told FOX4.
The trooper in the video has been identified as Dave Stewart from Linden, according to the station.
Loftin told the station she contacted Stewart’s sister to mail him a care package as a way of saying “thank you.”
“He was waving at us, and we were waving back,” Stewart told the station. “When you see kids like that pulling for us and what we’re doing special like at a ballgame out in the public, it’s pretty special.
“He did way more for us than I think I could ever have done with that hat.”
