Arlington pharmacist shot by man wearing dress, police say

A pharmacist in Arlington was shot during an attempted robbery Wednesday morning and police say the suspect may have been a man dressed as a woman.

The victim, a man in his 60s, was taken to a hospital. He was in surgery at about 11 a.m., but his condition was unknown.

Officers responded to the shooting at the Remco Pharmacy in the 1600 block of West Division Street about 9:30 a.m., police spokesman Steven Bartolotta said.

The suspect, originally believed by police to be a woman, entered the pharmacy and began demanding drugs. At some point, Bartolotta said, the suspect shot the pharmacist and fled in a car.

There were no witnesses to the shooting.

Police on Wednesday afternoon were reviewing surveillance video from inside the pharmacy and working to get a description of the suspect’s car, Bartolotta said.
