The political action committee that counts Mayor Jeff Williams and other City Council members among its heavy hitters officially kicks off its campaign Sunday for the proposed $1 billion retractable-roof stadium for the Texas Rangers.

Vote Yes! Keep the Rangers is sponsoring a rally from 1 to 4 p.m. at Arlington Convention Center, 1200 Ballpark Way.

On Tuesday, the council is expected to take the second and final vote calling a Nov. 8 election to decide whether the proposal receives public financing. The city is proposing to pay up to $500 million by redirecting some of a half-cent sales tax, a 2 percent hotel/motel tax and a 5 percent car-rental tax that are currently paying the city’s share of construction costs for AT&T Stadium.

The family-oriented events include baseball-themed games for all ages, and the Rangers game with the Houston Astros will be shown live on big screens. Popcorn and lemonade will be provided, and participants have shots at winning autographed baseballs.

The Texas Legends and Rangers Six Shooters will make appearances.
