The Coast Guard has halted its search for an Arlington woman who fell overboard from a Carnival cruise ship headed to Mexico early Friday.

Crews ended their search for Samantha Broberg shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday, Coast Guard officer Andy Kendrick said Monday.

Broberg, 33, was reported missing Friday from the Liberty about 195 miles from its port in Galveston, according to Coast Guard officials. Video from the ship showed her falling overboard from the 10th deck at 2 a.m.

Coast Guard officer Andy Kendrick said airplane crews continued looking for Broberg at 7:30 a.m. Sunday. They were still actively searching a 22-by-63-nautical-mile area southeast of Galveston on Sunday evening, but ended their search Sunday night.

The Coast Guard was notified of Broberg’s disappearance at about 5 p.m. Friday after the crew contacted them with confirmation she had fallen overboard.

The people she was with realized they couldn’t find her around noon Friday, which is when Carnival staff was notified, Kendrick said.

Searchers flew HC-144 Ocean Sentrys, twin-engine aircraft from Corpus Christi and Mobile, Ala., often used for search and rescue. Three planes had gone out by 5 p.m. Sunday.

The ship had departed from Galveston on Thursday for a four-day cruise to Mexico, the Star-Telegram’s media partner, WFAA, reported.
