The first mosquito infected with West Nile virus this season has been detected in a neighborhood just east of Lake Arlington, the city said Friday.

In response, the city will conduct targeted ground spraying in the area of the Saddle Ridge Road/Yacht Club Drive intersection on Monday and Tuesday between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., weather permitting.

City employees and contractors have been trapping and using larvicide in strategic sites throughout the city since the beginning of the mosquito season, the city said. They also have surveyed low-lying areas for standing water.

Mosquito larvae can appear in water standing for just three or four days.

The city asks residents who want more information about targeted ground spraying to call the city action center at 817-459-6777.
