A small plane that experienced engine trouble shortly after takeoff Saturday from Grand Prairie Municipal Airport made a safe emergency landing in a high school parking lot near the Grand Prairie Police Department.

The private plane landed in the 1500 block of Arkansas Lane, outside an apartment complex, according to NBC 5 and CBS 11. Police said there were no injuries to the pilot or anyone on the ground, the stations reported.

The pilot, after noticing mechanical problems, attempted to return to the airport in the 3100 block of Great Southwest Parkway, according to the reports. Police said the plane was towed back to the airport.

CBS 11 said the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
