I-20 reopened after 18-wheeler spills food in Grand Prairie wreck
These scrambled eggs probably weren’t appreciated by early morning commuters.
Interstate 20 has reopened in Grand Prairie after an overnight wreck involving an overturned 18-wheeler that spilled groceries over all lanes of the highway.
“It was a refrigerated container,” said Lyle Gensler, a Grand Prairie police department spokesman. “Looked to be a restaurant or grocery store delivery. I remember seeing a lot of scrambled eggs on the roadway surface and some milk.”
The wreck occurred about 3 a.m. when the rig struck the barrier wall near the President George Bush Turnpike (State Highway 161).
“He veered to avoid another accident that had just happened, which created a chain reaction of chaos,” Gensler said.
The wreck scattered food over both sides of the interstate, damaging multiple vehicles and forcing the highway’s closure for hours as cleanup efforts were made.
Gensler said the truck driver was transported to an area hospital with back injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening.
As of 8:30 a.m., Gensler said the highway was back open but traffic was still backed up for a couple of miles.
