A 23-year-old senior at the University of Texas at Arlington was moved from a hospital to the Tarrant County Jail on Thursday as the investigation continued into the fatal shooting of a Saginaw High School student and the wounding of an Arlington police officer.

Joel McCommon was wounded Monday in a shootout with police officers who were trying to arrest him in the death of Jordan Miles, 17, on Sunday.

McCommon faces charges of murder and attempted capital murder of a peace officer. His bail was set at a total of $350,000.

Arlington police Officer Eddie Johnston was treated at a hospital and released the next day.

An arrest warrant affidavit says that Miles was killed during a “business transaction.”

Two witnesses told investigators that Miles and McCommon began fighting in McCommon’s red 2006 Nissan Altima, a fight that spilled out into the street in the 200 block of Creekside Drive.

McCommon pulled a handgun and fired one round into Miles’ stomach, witnesses said.
