Police are investigating how a 4-year-old girl was able to grab a handgun and shoot an adult male Friday, sending him to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police responded to the shooting call about 2 p.m. at a residence in the 4200 block of Troy Lane, according to Sgt. VaNessa Harrison, a police spokeswoman.

The man was shot in the leg and was released after treatment at the hospital, Harrison said.

In Texas, it is unlawful to leave a firearm where a child can get access to it.
