An employee of an Arlington charter bus company was crushed between two buses early Friday, police said.

Philemon McLean had worked for Dan Dipert Coaches and Tours since 2013 and turned 64 on Thursday, the company said in a statement.

Police were called to the company’s facility in the 7300 block of West Pioneer Parkway in west Arlington about 5:30 a.m.

McLean had parked a bus and was standing outside the bus with another employee when he noticed that it had started rolling, said Lt. Chris Cook, a police spokesman.

He “tried to make a run for the [bus] door,” Cook said, but was crushed between the front of the bus and another parked bus.

He was pronounced dead about 5:40 a.m., MedStar spokesman Matt Zavadsky said.

Cook said police believe that the incident was an accident but aren’t sure what caused the bus to start rolling.

McLean was the first Dipert employee to die on the job since the company opened in 1972, the company said.
