Arlington man arrested in fatal shooting

A drug deal gone bad prompted a gang member to gun down another man Feb. 29 on an Arlington street, according to an affidavit obtained by the Star-Telegram on Sunday.

Taajon Jabri Richardson, 21, of Arlington was arrested Saturday in Irving without incident, and accused of fatally shooting Alex Sanchez, 20.

Richardson, also called “Yung Rambo,” is accused in the affidavit of shooting Sanchez once after the two stepped out of a vehicle on the night of Feb. 29 in the 6100 block of Fern Meadow Road.

Investigators tracked down Richardson from a home surveillance camera in the neighborhood and using information from witnesses who feared retaliation from other gang members.

Richardson is believed to be a member of an Arlington criminal street gang, according to the affidavit, which gives this account of the shooting:

Sanchez and two other people contacted Richardson Feb. 29 to purchase drugs. Richardson gave them a location on Fern Meadow Road to meet.

When Sanchez and the two other people arrived, Richardson walked up to the vehicle and opened a back door. Richardson noticed Sanchez in a back seat and backed out of the vehicle. Sanchez and Richardson had a previous drug deal go bad.

Sanchez got out of the vehicle and the two spoke briefly. At some point, the affidavit says, Richardson pulled out a handgun and shot Sanchez one time.

Sanchez died from a gunshot wound to the head, according to officials with the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.

The two people with Sanchez fled in a white car and Richardson also left the scene.

Residents reported the gunshot, and Sanchez was found in the middle of the street.

Richardson was in the Irving City Jail on Sunday in lieu of $250,000 bail on a murder charge in the Arlington case. He is also being held on $633 bail on a drug possession charge out of Arlington.

Irving records indicated Richardson was in custody on a fraud charge out of Dallas County.
