Nissan driver crashes through Arlington gas pump causing fire
A Nissan driver lost control of his car at a convenience store Monday evening, rear-ending another car and knocking over a gas pump and a protective post, a Fire Department spokesman said.
The Nissan caught fire, but the emergency shut-off switch cut the gas supply so damage was “minimal,” said Lt. David Tyler, an Arlington fire spokesman.
Surveillance video from local TV shows a driver putting gas in his car when the Nissan barrels in, sending the gas pump flying and catching fire. A man gets out of the first car after it is rear-ended as do occupants of the Nissan.
The adult driver of the Nissan and two child passengers were subsequently taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
The wreck occurred at a SuperTrack store in the 2000 block of East Pioneer Parkway at 5:04 p.m. Monday, Tyler said. Arlington firefighters extinguished the fire.
The Nissan driver won’t face charges, Lt. Chris Cook, an Arlington police spokesman, wrote in an email.
About the same time, Arlington firefighters were called to a house fire in the 900 block of Darlene Lane less than 2 miles away.
The fire call was received at 5:34 p.m. The one-alarm fire took 15 minutes, 26 firefighters, two battalion chiefs, four engines and two ladders to extinguish, Tyler said.
The house was heavily damaged, he said.
Firefighters hadn’t determined the cause of the blaze. Tyler said it was under investigation.
