Arlington police look for man who fought with three officers

Police were searching Friday for a man who tried to take away the handguns of three officers during a struggle on Wednesday.

Officers responded to a call about suspicious person about 1:15 p.m. in the 1000 block of Whispering Oaks Court, said Lt. Christopher Cook, a police spokesman.

When officers arrived, they found a man in the passenger seat of a car and because of what they saw and smelled, the focus of the investigation changed into a narcotics investigation, Cook said.

When the officers asked the man to get out of the vehicle, he started fighting with them, Cook said. An officers deployed a Taser but it was not effective, Cook said.

The man tried multiple times to grab the officers’ firearms, Cook said. All three officers ended up on the ground with the suspect and sustained minor injuries, according to police.

One officer was transported to a hospital but was later released, police said.

The man ran away and had not been caught late Friday, Cook said.

Five arrest warrants were issued —three for attempting to disarm a peace officer, a felony, one for resisting arrest and one of evading arrest.
