Arlington police arrest third suspect in high school social media threats

Police investigating disruptive social media threats against Arlington schools last week arrested a third suspect on Monday.

The suspect, a juvenile and a student at Cedar Hill High School, was taken into custody Monday night, accused of posting Instagram threats against Sam Houston High School, Lt. Christopher Cook, a police spokesman, said Wednesday.

The student was taken to the Tarrant County Juvenile Detention Center and is expected to be charged with making a terroristic threat, Cook said.

The third arrest closes the Arlington police investigation into the threats, Cook said.

A 17-year-old Bowie High School student was arrested Nov. 18 after she was linked to a tweet threatening violence at the school. Police seized the cellphone of Shalaria Jones and obtained a search warrant that linked her to the tweet sent on Nov. 17.

“The post consisted of a photograph of a black handgun that stated @12 be readie for bowie to hav a schoo shootin,” the affidavit stated.

A second student was arrested two days later, accused of making threats against the school on Nov. 17. The unidentified 15-year-old posted threats on the instant messaging app Kik, police said.

“Heard yal were suppoed to have a shooting but since that never happened ill make sure it does,” one of the messages read.

The threats caused more than 200 students to leave the schools, police said.

Police tracked down the students by contacting Twitter and subscriber information through Kik.
