Arlington man threatening estranged wife shot by Terrell police

An Arlington man caught breaking into his estranged wife’s home in Terrell was shot and wounded by police Saturday, according to police statements provided to several media outlets.

The 28-year-old man, whose name was not released, was taken to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas by helicopter ambulance for treatment, WFAA-TV reported Saturday night.

The man’s wounds were not life-threatening, police spokesman Capt. A.D. Sansom said in a statement released to WFAA.

Sansom said a Terrell officer “shot the suspect several times to prevent him from breaking into the residence and gaining access to the woman.” He refused to drop his weapon, the television station reported.

The man had two felony assault warrants issued by Mansfield police, in addition to other charges, and he faces burglary charges, stalking and evading arrests stemming from the incident Saturday, police told WFAA.

The officer, whom Sansom described in the statement as “very experienced veteran with the department,” was placed on routine administrative leave, the TV station reported.
