Two area municipal professionals appointed to state boards

Gov. Greg Abbott has appointed Derrelynn Perryman of the Arlington Police Department to the Texas Criminal Justice Board, which oversees the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Her term expires in 2021.

Abbott also appointed Lt. Mike Jones of the Burleson Fire Department to the Texas Commission on Fire Protection, which writes fire policy for the state. His term expires in 2017.

Perryman has been victim services coordinator for the Arlington police since 1994. The department has been recognized twice by the International Association of Chiefs of Police for excellence in victim services.

Perryman is an adjunct instructor in the School of Social Work and the Criminal Justice and Criminology department at the University of Texas at Arlington. She has been a therapist at Family Assessment, Consultation and Therapy Service (FACTS), where she developed programs for court-ordered offenders, including a batterers intervention program and a life skills curriculum for federal probationers.

Jones is certified in many specialty areas, including hazardous materials technician, wildland firefighter, swift water technician and as a trainer for dealing with weapons of mass destruction, radiological/nuclear operations level.

The state fire protection commission “aids in the protection of lives and property of Texans through the development and enforcement of recognized professional standards for individuals and the fire service,” according to a news release.
