A woman died Thursday morning in Arlington when she was hit by an 18-wheeler while trying to cross Interstate 20 on foot after she was involved in a domestic disturbance at a motel, police said.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the woman who died as 40-year-old Demetrice Renee Clark.

Arlington police said their preliminary investigation found that Clark and a man were involved in a domestic dispute at a nearby motel before the fatal crash. The man left first on foot and began crossing I-20 from north to south, police said in a news release. A short time later, Clark entered the freeway near Bowen Road and was struck by a westbound 18-wheeler, according to the release.

Clark was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident about 4 a.m.

The truck driver immediately stopped, called 911, and cooperated with the investigation, police said. The driver was not injured, and he is not facing any criminal charges, investigators said.

The westbound lanes of I-20 near Cooper Street were closed to traffic for several hours, but were open again by 9 a.m., the Texas Department of Transportation said on social media.

TxDOT officials initially posted about the crash at 4:45 a.m. and encouraged drivers to look for another route.
