68-year-old pedestrian dies in Arlington after being hit by a car, police say
A 68-year-old man died after being hit by a car in Arlington on Tuesday night, April 21, police said.
Arlington police officers responded about 9 p.m. to the intersection of South Cooper Street and Lovers Lane after receiving reports that a 2015 Toyota Avalon hit someone who was in the roadway, police said in a news release.
When officers arrived, they found the man lying unresponsive on the ground. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said.
The driver of the Avalon stopped and cooperated with the investigation. No criminal charges have been filed against the driver, according to police.
Investigators determined that the man was crossing Cooper Street from west to east when the Avalon travelling northbound hit him, police said.
Police said the area does not have a designated crosswalk and the man was not wearing bright or reflective clothing. The driver told officers that he did not see the man before the crash.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the man who died after his next of kin is notified.
The Arlington Police Department reminds pedestrians to always use designated crosswalks or traffic lights when crossing roadways, especially when visibility is low.
