6-year-old girl dies in crash with dump truck on I-20 in Arlington
A 6-year-old girl was killed and another child and adult were injured after a car rear-ended a dump truck on Interstate 20 in Arlington early Wednesday, police said.
Officers were called to the westbound lanes of I-20 near the U.S. 287 interchange shortly before 12:30 a.m. for a major accident between a 2014 Nissan Sentra and a dump truck.
Investigators think the Nissan’s driver got distracted by something going on in the back seat and took their eyes off the road, police said. The car plowed into the back of the dump truck.
The dump truck’s driver was not hurt, according to police. A 6-year-old girl riding in the back of the Nissan died in the emergency room at Cook Children’s Medical Center from her injuries. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner identified the child as Aviah Getz.
The Nissan’s driver and another child passenger were also injured but are expected to survive.
The fatal crash is under investigation. Police said the child who died was in a car seat, but investigators believe she may have unbuckled her seat belt or not been wearing it properly.
