Police are investigating a Wednesday night shooting that killed a woman and injured a man while they were driving on Interstate 20 in west Arlington. Two children in the car with the couple weren’t injured.

Officers responded to QuikTrip in the 4900 block of Little Road about 7:40 p.m. after a 911 caller said he’d been shot. They found a man and woman with gunshot wounds inside a car, according to police.

The woman was unresponsive and died a short time later at Medical City Arlington hospital. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified her as 29-year-old Breasia Simone Johnson. She died from a gunshot wound to the torso, according to the medical examiner, and her death has been ruled a homicide.

Homicide investigators learned the victims were headed west on I-20 when somebody fired at their vehicle near Bowman Springs Road. Another car in the same area was also struck by gunfire, but nobody was injured, police said.

The injured man was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Two children who were also in the car were evaluated at Medical City Arlington as a precaution, according to police.

Detectives are working to determine what led to the shooting, officials said. No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Detective Allison Allen at 817-575-8613. Anonymous tips can be phoned in to Crime Stoppers of Tarrant County at 817-469-8477.
