Part-time Arlington police officer accused of DWI
A part-time Arlington police officer resigned Monday after police said he was drunk when he backed into a car in a restaurant parking lot the night before.
Douglas Ligon, who was off-duty and in his own vehicle, was arrested in the 5300 block of Matlock Road about 7 p.m. Sunday.
Officers learned that he hit another vehicle and was “determined to be intoxicated,” Lt. Chris Cook, an Arlington police spokesman, wrote in an email.
No one was hurt and the vehicular damage was minor, Cook wrote.
He was a full-time police officer for the department from 1979 to 2008. Ligon has been part-time since April 2008.
Ligon’s most recent assignment was serving as a liaison with the Tarrant County district attorney’s office.
Since he has resigned, administrative action will not be taken. The criminal case will go to district attorney’s office.
