A suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 19-year-old man who had previously survived a 2021 school shooting, officials with the Arlington Police Department said.

Zacchaeus Selby-Mukum, 19, died in January after he was shot in an apartment complex parking lot, police said at the time.

Arlington police arrested 17-year-old Joshua Robinson on Tuesday, March 11, on a murder charge in connection to Selby-Mukum’s death, according to a statement.

Robinson allegedly shot and killed Selby-Mukum during a firearm sale gone wrong, police said.

Over the course of their investigation, detectives learned that Selby-Mukum used social media to sell guns and had arranged to meet with a buyer, later identified as Robinson, on the night he was killed, police said.

Surveillance footage from the apartment complex parking lot shows Selby-Mukum approaching a Nissan Altima parked in the lot, according to the statement.

The driver got out of the Altima and moved toward the spot where Selby-Mukum was later found dead, police said.

The driver then got back into the Altima and left the apartment complex, officials said. Phone records showed that Robinson had called Selby-Mukum shortly before the Altima entered the complex parking lot.

Robinson is currently being held at the Arlington City Jail, officials said Tuesday.

In a 2021 shooting at Mansfield Timberview High School, Selby-Mukum was one of three people injured when his classmate Timothy Simpkins opened fire.

Simpkins was later sentenced to 12 years in prison for the shooting, the Star-Telegram previously reported.
