One person died and two others were hospitalized after a vehicle struck pedestrians in Arlington early Saturday, according to a statement from the Arlington Police Department.

Officers responded to the 300 block of North Watson Road near Division Street around 1 a.m. after receiving reports that an SUV had struck a vehicle and several pedestrians, officials said.

At the scene, police found a 31-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman lying on the ground injured, according to the statement.

The man and woman were taken to a hospital, where the man was pronounced dead, officials said. The woman is listed in critical condition.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as 31-year-old Tyler White of Arlington.

First responders had to extricate the SUV’s driver, a 34-year old woman, who was also taken to a hospital and listed in critical condition, according to the statement.

Investigators determined that the 42-year old woman had been driving a 2016 Hyundai Veloster along North Watson Road when she lost control of the vehicle and went off the roadway, officials said.

The woman called family members to assist her, and the 31-year-old man then arrived at the scene in a 2004 GMC Yukon, according to the statement.

The man activated his hazard lights and parked the Yukon in the right lane, according to the statement.

As he and the driver of the Veloster attempted to retrieve a tow cable from the Yukon, the driver of the SUV approached at a high rate of speed, striking the two and the Yukon, officials said.

Investigators have not determined whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Charges are pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation.
