A motorcyclist is dead and a man has been arrested after a crash early Saturday in the 2700 block of North Collins Street in Arlington, officials said.

Officers responded to the scene at about 1 a.m. Saturday and found that a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado had collided head-on with a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, according to a police statement.

The motorcyclist, a 55-year-old man identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office as Richard Wing, of Dallas, was lying unresponsive in the street and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The driver of the Silverado, identified as 27-year-old Thomas Kelly Jr., was arrested on suspicion of intoxication manslaughter, according to the statement.

Witnesses told officers the Silverado had been weaving in traffic and swerved into a center turning lane, where the motorcyclist was waiting to make a turn.

Witnesses also reported seeing Kelly exit the truck after the crash, throw multiple cans into a grassy area alongside the road and try to run from the scene, officials said.

Passers-by restrained Kelly until police arrived, according to the statement.

Kelly was uncooperative and refused to perform roadside sobriety tests before his arrest, and officers later recovered several beer cans from the area where witnesses saw Kelly throwing things, officials said.
