Shooter tells Arlington police he fired on, killed man because he saw him choking woman
A 30-year-old man is dead after a shooting in Arlington in which the suspected shooter said he tried to intervene when he saw the man strangling a woman Tuesday night, according to a news release from police.
The suspected shooter said he intervened to stop the man from strangling the woman and to protect himself, according to police.
Officers were sent around 11 p.m. to the 2900 block of Forest Hallow Lane after a report of a shooting in progress at the apartment complex, police said in the release. A woman reported the father of her child was shot by one of her relatives. The suspected shooter stayed at the homicide scene until police arrived.
Detectives learned while investigating the shooting that there was a history of domestic violence involving the the man who was killed and the woman who the suspected shooter said was being choked.
The man who was shot was taken to a hospital, where he died, according to police. No arrests have been made, but the case remains under investigation and will be referred to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office for further review.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man who was killed as Cameron McGowan. He died from a gunshot wound to the chest.
