Arlington health clinic moves. Here’s what you need to know to get low-cost care
An Arlington clinic that offers low-cost health care has moved to a new and improved space on the Texas Health Arlington Memorial hospital campus.
The Arlington location of North Texas Area Community Health Centers opened its new space at at 1001 N. Waldrop Drive in Suite 708, near the intersection of North Cooper Street and West Randol Mill Road. The clinic is in a building connected to the main Texas Health Arlington Memorial hospital.
This new location will allow the Arlington Community Health Center to more easily refer and receive patients from the emergency room or other specialists, said Gerrie Whitaker, the CEO of North Texas Area Community Health Centers.
“It’s much easier to tell a person in the emergency room to get on an elevator and come up and see us, as opposed to giving them a phone number,” Whitaker said.
The new location also offers an updated and more pleasant environment than the previous Arlington location, in a strip mall about a half a mile away, Whitaker said. The clinic will continue to offer the same services, including women’s health, adult health, and pediatrics.
The Arlington clinic is one of three clinics operated by North Texas Area Community Health Centers, the only health center in Tarrant County designated as a Federally Qualified Health Center. These centers receive federal funding to provide health care in areas that are considered medically underserved, and are typically one of few options available to adults who don’t have health insurance and who don’t qualify for other assistance programs.
In 2023, the three clinics treated nearly 8,000 adults and children who don’t have health insurance, according to federal data. Texas is home to more people without health insurance than any other state in the nation. In 2022, almost 19% of Texas children and adults under the age of 65 did not have health insurance, and that share has likely grown over the last two years as thousands of Texas children and adults lose their Medicaid health insurance during a process known as the Medicaid unwinding.
Although the clinics treat a large number of patients without health insurance, anyone can receive treatment there.
“We are a full service health center for everyone, not just for people who don’t have insurance,” Whitaker said.
