A 44-year-old pedestrian died after being critically injured in an accident last week, Arlington police said in a news release Saturday.

The crash occurred at around 5:30 a.m. March 26 in the 1400 block of North Cooper Street.

Investigators think the man stepped into the roadway in front of a 2002 Toyota Sequoia that was northbound along North Cooper Street when he was hit by the SUV.

He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead this week.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man who died as Jared Michael Stockton, of Midlothian.

The driver of the Sequoia remained at the scene and was cooperative with investigators, police said in the release. The driver is not facing any criminal charges in connection to the incident.

It’s unknown why Stockton stepped into the roadway, police say.
