Parkway Central Park in Arlington is closed to the public after a coyote attacked two kids, the City of Arlington announced in a Facebook post.

City officials were notified that a child was bitten by a coyote Saturday at the park, located at 600 Van Buren Drive, according to the post. Arlington Animal Services set a trap and patrolled the park, but was not able to catch the coyote.

The city closed the park Tuesday evening after being notified that another child was bitten by what is believed to be the same coyote, according to the post. Animal Services and police officers responded to try to tranquilize and trap the coyote, but it could not be located, the post said.

City officials said Animal Services planned on setting out additional traps at the park Tuesday evening and will continue patrols to find the coyote.

Parkway Central Park will remain closed to the public on Wednesday. Updates are available at the City of Arlington’s social media accounts.

The mating season for coyotes runs from mid-January through March, a time when male coyotes become more aggressive.
