A 56-year-old man died Friday afternoon when his pickup crashed into an 18-wheeler in northeast Arlington, police said.

Officers responded to the 700 block of North Great Southwest Parkway around 2:15 p.m. to investigate a crash. Witnesses told them an 18-wheeler was attempting to back into a parking lot in order to make a delivery and temporarily blocked all lanes of traffic. A northbound Chevrolet 1500 “did not attempt to stop and crashed into the trailer,” Arlington police said in a news release Saturday.

The driver died at the scene, officials said. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner has identified him as Eduardo Nino Nino of Grand Prairie. No one else was in the pickup.

According to the release, investigators think the pickup was traveling at a high rate of speed.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was uninjured and has cooperated with the investigation. It appears he backed into the parking lot “with due care,” police said, and he’s not facing any criminal charges connected with the accident.
