Grand Prairie police search for thieves on ATVs
A couple of all-terrain vehicles proved their versatility a few weeks ago and police want to find the riders.
Authorities appealed for help Tuesday finding four people who used ATVs to ride through the city landfill in the 1100 block of MacArthur Boulevard and steal more than $40,000 worth of copper wiring from a business working at the site.
Police released photos of the suspects on the ATVs used to steal the wiring from Big City Crushed Concrete on June 28. Grand Prairie had hired the company to crush concrete at the landfill.
“We don’t see many riding ATVs,” said Detective Mark Beseda, referring to the thieves’ method of transportation.
The ATV bandits hit about 6:30 p.m., caught in the act by a surveillance camera at the landfill.
“They went through the landfill to get to the business,” Beseda said.
They tore the copper wiring off a machine owned by Big City, then used the ATVs to drag the wire out of the business, police said.
Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 972-988-8477.
