Grand Prairie woman accused of fatally shooting father, 90

A 51-year-old woman faces a murder charge in the shooting of her 90-year-old father.

Cassie Hughes called police about 1 p.m. Wednesday and told the call-taker that she shot a relative and would surrender when officers arrived.

Officers found Robert Hughes dead of a gunshot wound inside the home in the 1900 block of Westminster Drive.

His daughter was arrested on suspicion of murder and was being held Thursday at the Grand Prairie Jail. Bail was set at $200,000.

The motive remains under investigation, police spokesman Lyle Gensler said.

A woman who answered the phone at the home Thursday afternoon said the family had no comment.
