1 killed in overnight wreck on I-20 in Arlington

A motorist was killed early Thursday on Interstate 20 in southeast Arlington after crashing into an abandoned vehicle on the side of the road, according to police.

The accident occurred about 2 a.m. east of Collins Boulevard, police spokeswoman Tiara Richard said in an email.

Police said the motorist was westbound on the highway when, for an unknown reason, he drove onto the shoulder and struck the back of another car that had been abandoned and parked on the inside shoulder.

The driver was pronounced dead on the scene.

He has been identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office as Shawn Perry, 40, of Benbrook.

Investigators are looking into the possibility that alcohol may have played a part in the crash, officials say.
