Stolen vehicle chase with UTA police leads to lockdown, arrests outside Arlington High School
Arlington High School was placed on a lockdown Friday afternoon following a police chase that started near the University of Texas at Arlington and ended with a crash at the high school, police said. Two suspects were arrested on school grounds.
At around 11:45 a.m., the UT Arlington Police Department responded to a report of a vehicle theft in progress at a UTA parking lot at 1301 W. Mitchell St
UTA police detectives found the stolen car a few miles away, according to a news release from UTA police. When officers tried to stop the car, the suspects fled, resulting in a chase led by the Arlington Police Department, the release said.
“The fleeing vehicle wrecked out at Arlington High School, where a male occupant of the vehicle was taken into custody,” UTA police said.
A second male suspect got out of the car and ran and he was pursued by Arlington and UTA police. The second suspect was taken into custody on the Arlington High School campus. A handgun that was discarded by the man during the foot chase was recovered, according to UTA police.
The two suspects who were arrested were identified by police as Shaquric Lanus, 27, and Steven Razo, 32.
A third, female suspect separated from the other suspects at the intersection of Fielder Road and Mitchell Street and fled in an undetermined direction, police said.
Arlington High was briefly locked down, but has since resumed normal operation.
Lanus faces charges of unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited placed, unlawful carrying of a weapon with a felony conviction, evading arrest and criminal trespass.
Razo faces charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading arrest. He also had an outstanding warrant out of Tarrant County, police said.
Arlington and UTA police are jointly investigating the incident.
