Unidentified woman killed by hit-and-run driver in Arlington crash, police say
An unidentified pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run accident early Saturday morning in Arlington, and police said they are searching for the driver who left the scene.
Officers responded about 2:50 a.m. to the 1300 block of West Division Street after a passerby reported seeing a woman lying unresponsive near the road, police said in a news release.
The woman, who did not have any form of ID on her, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Based on physical evidence investigators found on the street, police said that they believe the woman was trying to cross Division when she was hit by a vehicle traveling west. The driver did not stop or render aid to the woman, who was not using a designated crosswalk and was wearing dark clothing.
Police said they haven’t been able to find any witnesses or surveillance video that shows the collision, but they believe the vehicle will have visible damage to the front passenger side.
Police asked that anyone with information call Investigator Ritcheson at (817) 575-8601. Tipsters can remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers of Tarrant County at (817) 469-8477.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identity of the woman once a positive identification is made and next of kin have been notified.
The Arlington Police Department said it wants to reminds drivers “it is illegal to leave the scene of a crash that results in someone being injured. State law also requires you to render aid to anyone who is injured, which can be as simple as calling 911.”
Pedestrian should always use traffic lights and designated crosswalks when crossing the road, police said. “Cutting across a roadway is dangerous at all times of the day, but particularly when it’s dark outside and visibility is reduced,” Arlington police said in the release.
