Fire at University of Texas at Arlington campus causes evacuation, shuts down building
A fire caused an evacuation Tuesday morning at the University of Texas at Arlington and temporarily shut down a main campus building.
At about 9:30 a.m, a kitchen fire in a University Center restaurant triggered an alarm and prompted an evacuation of the building, spokesperson Joe Carpenter said.
The Arlington Fire Department was on the scene within four minutes and reported the fire out at about 10 a.m., Carpenter said.
No injuries were reported.
Fire and smoke traveled up through the restaurant’s exhaust vents, and initial assessments indicate damage to that kitchen and its exhaust system, Carpenter said.
After the fire was extinguished, campus police still urged people to remain clear of the building.
Carpenter said the University Center was expected to reopen later in the day Tuesday.
