Man, 71, killed in Arlington motorcycle accident, police say

A 71-year-old man died after a motorcycle and an SUV collided Thursday afternoon.

The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of N. Center Street and Thannisch Drive in Arlington.

“Investigators believe the driver of a 2021 Ford EcoSport was traveling southbound along Center Street and attempted to make a left turn onto Thannisch Drive when a motorcycle driver traveling northbound on Center Street collided with the side of the SUV,” police said.

The 71-year-old man, who was identified as Laurin Carlton, of Arlington, by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office, was driving the motorcycle. He was thrown off his vehicle and police said he was not wearing a helmet.

First responders took Carlton to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased around 5:10 p.m.

The SUV’s operator, a 49-year-old man, who police didn’t name, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said.

“He was cited for Failure to Yield the Right of Way after investigators determined he was at fault for the crash,” police said. “Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.”
