17-year-old motorcyclist killed in single-vehicle crash in Arlington, authorities say

A 17-year-old Grand Prairie motorcyclist was killed Sunday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash in Arlington, authorities said Monday.

The teen has been identified as David T. Gitau, who died at an Arlington hospital shortly after the accident, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office website on Monday. He was pronounced dead at 3:35 p.m. Sunday.

Arlington police responded to the major accident just before 3 p.m. Sunday in the 5000 block of New York Avenue.

Investigators determined that the motorcyclist lost control of his vehicle as he was traveling southbound on New York Avenue, hit a curb and was thrown from his motorcycle.

No one else was involved in the accident.

Arlington police believe the motorcyclist’s inexperience may have been a factor in the crash.
