Fort Worth girl dies from injuries suffered in crash involving suspected drunken driver
A 2-year-old Fort Worth girl critically injured after her family’s vehicle was hit by a suspected drunken driver in Arlington died Thursday night, according to officials with the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Milania Pierite died at 7:56 p.m. Thursday at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, according to the website.
Her parents suffered serious injuries in the Tuesday night crash in Arlington while their 4-year-old daughter suffered minor injuries.
Arlington police arrested 25-year-old Tyler Hampton, who faces several charges .
The wreck was reported just before 8:30 p.m. on Interstate 20 near Texas 360 in Arlington.
Arlington police said Hampton was driving erratically in a Mazda MX-5 when it hit a Toyota Tundra, causing the Toyota to veer off the roadway, strike a guardrail, flip and land on its side.
A Fort Worth family was in the Toyota Tundra and headed home at the time of the accident, according to KDFW Channel 4.
At the scene, Arlington police performed a series of sobriety tests on Hampton and based on the results, he was taken into custody.
At the time of his arrest, Hampton, of Grand Prairie, faced three counts of intoxication assault with serious bodily injury.
Arlington police said on Friday that one of those charges will be upgraded to intoxication manslaughter.
