Arlington received 74 police chief applicants. What’s next?
Arlington officials have culled two dozen names from its pool of prospective police chiefs, according to a city press release..
The city received 74 applications in its national search to replace former chief Will Johnson, who retired in June. Applicants include interim police chiefs Jaime Ayala and Kevin Kolbye.
Ryan Hunt, city spokesman, said the city does not plan to immediately release the names of the 24 candidates selected to move forward.
In the next few months, city staff plans to narrow their search to a semifinalist group that will meet with officials, community leaders and business owners in September.
A panel of city management staff will interview the final candidates. The candidates will also tour the city and field questions in public forums.
The city plans to select a new police chief between late October and early November.
