Arlington police officer arrested on family assault charge

An officer with the Arlington Police Department was arrested Sunday afternoon on a charge of family assault.

Richard Morris was placed on administrative leave after his arrest, police said. Investigators were called about the incident just after 4 p.m.

Morris has been with the department for four years and is a patrol officer. He was off-duty at the time of the alleged assault.

A news release from Arlington police said that investigators obtained a statements and collected evidence from the victim. Detectives also interviewed Morris.

The department will conduct separate and concurrent administrative and criminal investigations, the release said. The criminal case will then be forwarded to the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office.

No other information about the assault was released.

On Monday afternoon, Morris was no longer listed as being jailed.
